Dr. John Beyers was appointed to Grace Church in March 1997 as the youngest Senior Minister of the historic Midtown church. Previously, he served as pastor of Brooks United Methodist Church, Brooks, Georgia from 1987 until 1992, The First United Methodist Church, Pine Mountain, Georgia from 1992 until 1995, and Prospect United Methodist Church, Lawrenceville, Georgia from 1995 until 1997. Dr. Beyers was ordained Deacon in 1990 and Elder in 1992 in the North Georgia United Methodist Conference.

In 1990 he was graduated from Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia with the Master of Divinity degree with an emphasis in Biblical languages and Methodist and Wesleyan theology. There he was co-founder of The Candler Evangelical Society. In 1996 he pursued additional graduate studies at The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee and, in 1998, was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree honoris causa from Piedmont College, Demorest, Georgia.

One of Dr. Beyers' greatest passions is reaching unchurched persons for Jesus Christ through evangelical outreach ministries, including Insight from Grace, which aired on WNNX "99X" FM from December 1998 until September 2003. He is continuously seeking new ways to reach this unique demographic group and introduce them to the love and life of Jesus Christ.

In 2002 he was inducted into The Order of St. Luke, a religious order with The United Methodist Church dedicated to sacramental and liturgical scholarship, education, and practice. Since 2001, Dr. Beyers has taught on the faculty of the North Georgia Conference License for Pastoral Ministry School. Dr. Beyers has served on the North Georgia Board of Witness and Worship, the Atlanta-Emory District Board of Ordained Ministry and the Atlanta-Emory District Council on Ministries. He is also a member of the Atlanta Chapter of The American Guild of Organists.

Dr. Beyers' personal interests include international travel, the life, thought and theology of John Wesley, Anglo-Methodist sacramental theology and worship, the music of the pipe organ and spending time with his dog, Puppy.

Do you enjoy a casual style of worship?

If you prefer an informal worship experience, join us on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM in the Mary Hogan Fellowship Hall for our Contemporary Worship Service.” We dress casually, we sit at tables and drink coffee during the worship service, but there is nothing casual about the sincerity of our desire to praise and worship our Creator! Our Grace Church Worship Band (consisting of vocals, drums, acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars and keyboard) leads the congregation with upbeat praise songs. The messages by Dr. Jim Howell are always Bible based with practical applications and teachings of His word for His people. Come join us for an amazing worship experience!
